Theaters are expressing confidence in their ability to weather an upcoming dry spell, as the industry faces a temporary drought of major blockbusters. This comes after a period of significant success, highlighted by films like Weapons, which earned an impressive $148.8 million worldwide.

The confidence stems from two key factors. First, the 2025 box office has already been incredibly strong, thanks to the surprising success of films like Jurassic World Rebirth ($828 million) and Sinners. This has provided a solid financial foundation for the year.

Second, theaters have recovered significantly since the pandemic and are in a much stronger financial position to handle short-term slowdowns. While the upcoming slate is light on major hits, with the market relying on films like The Conjuring: Last Rites, analysts believe exhibitors can endure the lull without major issues.

The dry spell is set to end in October with a flood of new content, starting with Tron: Ares. This will be followed by a powerful lineup of films, including Wicked: For Good and Zootopia 2, that are expected to bring audiences back to theaters in massive numbers.
