Liver fatigue, or the state of being metabolically overwhelmed, is a real problem caused by modern diets, says a leading gastroenterologist. He identifies three food categories that cause the most significant liver overload. First, sugary drinks deliver a rapid and massive dose of fructose, which he calls “liquid poison.” This forces the liver into an emergency fat-production mode, causing fatigue and damage over time. Second, deep-fried foods overload the liver with unhealthy fats. The liver must process these fats, which can lead to inflammation and fat storage, impairing its more than 500 other vital functions. Third, ultra-processed foods cause overload due to their complex mix of unnatural ingredients. The liver must work overtime to detoxify additives and process unhealthy fats and sugars, leaving it strained and fatigued. The doctor’s advice is to give your liver a break by eliminating these burdensome foods.
