Your Instagram habit is about to get a major productivity boost. The social media platform is testing a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for Reels, a feature that will let you keep watching videos while you get other things done on your device.

Currently being tested with a limited audience, the PiP function allows a Reel to play in a small, floating window that stays visible on top of other applications. This means you can follow a DIY tutorial from a Reel while you have your shopping list open, or watch a news update while you reply to an email.

This update is a win for both efficiency and entertainment. For creators, it’s a powerful tool to keep their audience engaged, as viewers are less likely to abandon a video if they can multitask. The feature’s success in the testing phase will determine its future, and it will include an easy opt-out for users.

This move toward greater efficiency is mirrored in the launch of the new Instagram iPad app. The optimized interface allows for quicker navigation and a more streamlined content consumption experience on a larger screen, making it a better tool for both leisure and work-related browsing.
