Eurostar is set to enhance travel connectivity between the United Kingdom and Belgium with the introduction of its first direct train service linking London and Antwerp. Launching on December 14, the new route will remove the necessity for passengers to make a transfer in Brussels, offering a swifter and more convenient journey. Travelers can expect four direct services each day originating from London St. Pancras, significantly reducing the travel time to approximately 2 hours and 41 minutes, compared to the current options requiring a stopover at Brussels-Midi.
Despite the improved service for journeys from London to Antwerp, the return trip will not yet be as seamless. Due to the absence of necessary UK border and customs facilities at Antwerp Central Station, direct services back to London are not available. As a result, passengers traveling from Antwerp will still need to change trains in Brussels to complete their journey to the UK.
The introduction of this direct train service is anticipated to enhance accessibility and strengthen ties between the two cities. Antwerp, known for its vibrant fashion scene, robust diamond trade, and rich historical and culinary offerings, will become more readily accessible to travelers from the UK. The expectation is that the new service will not only facilitate easier travel but also encourage more frequent visits and economic exchanges between the regions.
