President Donald Trump is engaged in a delicate high-wire act, attempting to balance his strong alliance with Israel against an urgent push for a Gaza peace deal that its leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, opposes. The success of this balancing act will be tested during their critical White House meeting on Monday.

On one side, Trump has a long record of being a staunch supporter of Israel and a close personal ally of Netanyahu. This relationship has been a cornerstone of his Middle East policy, and he is careful not to appear to be abandoning his partner.

On the other side, Trump is heavily invested in securing a landmark peace agreement to end the nearly two-year Gaza war. He sees a historic opportunity, backed by Arab nations, to bring stability to the region. This has led him to adopt a tougher, more critical tone with Netanyahu, urging him toward a diplomatic solution.

This creates a precarious situation. If he pushes too hard, he risks a public rupture with Netanyahu, which could be politically damaging and undermine the alliance. If he doesn’t push hard enough, the peace initiative could fail, representing a significant foreign policy defeat.

The Monday summit is the focal point of this high-wire act. Trump must use all his diplomatic skill to persuade Netanyahu without shattering their alliance. He needs to be a firm negotiator while remaining a trusted friend. The world is watching to see if he can maintain his balance and guide both sides toward a peaceful resolution.
